Safaricom has introduced new transaction rates to its mobile money transfer service and apparently from the look of things the charges are incremental in that you get to be charged more for transacting larger amounts and lesser as shown in the new transfer charges, which had a flat rate of transferring any amount from Ksh101-35,000 from the flat rate of Ksh30 and Ksh60 for amounts between 35,001-70,000.

Charges Summary for sending money to registered users
Ksh10-49 will cost you Ksh 3
Ksh50-Ksh100 will cost Ksh5
Ksh 501-5000 will cost you Ksh30
Ksh5001-20000 will cost you Ksh 50
Ksh20001-45000 will cost Ksh75
Ksh45001-70000 will cost Ksh100
There is still no clear indication on changes on Paybill charges though these have largely remained varied given the type of organization/business you are paying to and the amount you are paying.
Other M-pesa services are still free e.g. registration and purchase of airtime via Mpesa. Balance enquiry still is charged at Ksh 1 and change of M-pesa Pin stills remains at Ksh20.
One good thing about the change is the ability for one to send as little as Ksh10 for only Ksh3 which initially you could only send a minimum of Ksh50.
Another loser for M-pesa withdrawals is the range of Ksh 3,500-5,000 which earlier attracted a withdrawal charge of Ksh45 but has been moved to Ksh60
